The most comprehensive musculoskeletal (MSK) palpation course in the UK.

This course will enhance the clinician's ability to accurately identify, palpate and navigate through the bony landmarks, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons of the upper limb of the human body; the course focuses on relating certain findings to common pathologies or dysfunctions for a detailed examination and formation of a working diagnosis.

Course Description

Anatomical knowledge provides the foundation for a detailed examination of a patient, the formation of a diagnosis and communication of these findings to the patient and other medical professionals.

The ATR® Clinical MSK Palpation course - Upper Limb is designed for either qualified and experienced practitioners or students of the Physiotherapy, Sport Rehabilitation, Sports Therapy, Osteopathy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractic as well as Massage Therapists or other manual therapy practitioners, who are either not yet confident in their palpation skills, or for the experienced practitioners who wish to master their musculoskeletal palpation skills.

This 2-day practical workshop will enhance the clinician’s ability to accurately identify, palpate and navigate through the bony landmarks, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons of the upper limb of the human body. The course focuses on relating certain findings to common pathologies or dysfunctions for a detailed examination and formation of a working diagnosis.

Learning objectives:

• Thoroughly and systematically identify, locate, and palpate the bony landmarks, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons of the shoulder girdle and arm; elbow and forearm; wrist and hand.

• Relate certain palpation findings to common pathologies or dysfunctions.

• Assimilate and apply new knowledge and concepts in a practical setting.

• Explore muscle origin, insertion, innervation, and action in order to apply precise and effective resistance exercises and stretching protocols.

  • Graduate Sport Rehabilitators / Sport Rehabilitation students

  • Graduate Sports Therapists / Sports Therapy students

  • Osteopaths / Osteopathy students

  • Chiropractors / Chiropractic students

  • Sports & Remedial Massage Therapists

  • Other manual therapy practitioners

Lecturer

Mr Stavros Daoukas | ATR Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Clinical Director

Stavros is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation in the Institute of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University (LSBU), in the UK. He is leading the Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology module across the Physiotherapy, Chiropractic and Sport Rehabilitation courses.

Alongside academia, he works as Band 7 MSK Sonographer in the Radiology Department at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS.

Prior to that, he worked in elite professional football as an Athletic Therapist (GSR) in the medical teams of Barnet FC, and Queens Park Rangers (QPR) FC.

Stavros is the President of the Greek Association of Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (PASTaR); Committee Member in the Research and Education Committee at the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy (WFATT); he serves as Deputy Editor at Ultrasound Journal of the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) and he is Accreditor at the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE).

He is member of the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators (BASRaT); the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine (BASEM); and the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS).

The course is aimed at healthcare professionals/students and manual therapy practitioners; Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists, Sport Rehabilitators, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Sports Massage Therapists, and other manual therapy practitioners.
